SC2-R2 and S2-R2
These are the boards you've been looking for!
I'm very happy to finally be able to announce the new release for both Spark Color 2 and Spark 2, dubbed SC2-R2 and S2-R2 respectively. These updates add some much-needed functionality to the Spark and Spark Color product line.
Spark 2 Features
Spark One Button support
Allows all the features of Spark to still be accessed with only one momentary button installed (you can use a latching but need to manually un-latch for each press). Turn this feature on and tap of the main button becomes blaster-block, EzLock works to enable the lockup, and holding the main to shutoff. Set it to one button w/motion to even get to every font by twisting the wrist in the menu to cycle fonts, and even access Saber Tracks this way!
Relive that menacing new saber look with two delay-extending quillons, just like on the big screen! Without any additional hardware you can support a single color blade and quillons, where the pulsing of all 3 will match.
Config Editor Updates
Config editor now supports auto-generating the dOut sound so a secondary extension will match the quillons extension! For any font simply run the new function to create the sounds. I also fixed some annoying bugs that prevented the simulator from having the correct blade color for Spark (thanks ARKM for the find!)
Spark Color 2 Features
Color Advance Adjustable Motion
Adds the ability to change the motion required to advance the color for Spark Color 2. Choose between twist (default) or the new hold aux button and twist. The latter prevents accidental triggering of the color change when dueling or heavy swinging.
The most advanced cross guard saber to date, X-Saber allows the user to do an RGB color-mixing saber with delayed quillon support! Relive the excitement in all colors, where each colorset retains all colors and pulsing, while still allowing the delayed ignition. Further, the side-bars are completely customizible, allowing to have one color set have the quillons on only for effects, one colorset completely off, and one the standard way!
A picture of the new XDrive module. This module is required for a cross-guard saber with color mixing.
Using X-Saber does require the new XDrive module, which is just a bit bigger than the newest TruDrive module, coming in at about 0.85" x 0.41". These will currently be available in pre-production green but in another 6 weeks or so expect the red to come in stock.
A shot showing a comparison of the XDrive module vs the TruDrive module of Spark Color 2.
Finally, you can skip the XDrive module if you only want a single color blade, allowing for a color-changing blade but single-color side LEDs.
Just like for Spark 2's editor the ability to generate the dual out sounds has been added to the editor, allowing any font to be used with the new XSaber functionality.
When is it going to be available!?
New boards will be arriving this week and will be shipping out with the R2 firmware at that time.
As for upgrades, I will NOT be offering a send-in upgrade as it is too much of a time effort for me to manage. However, for those with Spark Color 2 (R1), read below for some exciting news!
The upgrade to SC2-R2 is a free download-able upgrade. You simply need to download the new default files for SC2-R2 when it becomes available, and your board will be able to support the new features.
If you have a custom config you can download just the /dat folder from the default files, replace your existing /dat folder, and then make sure to run each font through the new config editor to update with all the new variables.
I should have the files up later this afternoon or the latest by tomorrow for those that want to try it on their Spark Color 2 boards.
Thanks for looking, Godspeed and MTFBWY!
